Depends upon what time of the year you are planning to fly. I fly into London about 3-4 times a year from nashville, tn. Always check yahoo travel for cheapest flight, then go to the lowest airlines website. If you purchase through yahoo, you get charged $10 booking fee. I have paid up to $1200 for economy last year during july, and i have paid $640 to fly economy during dec 2007. lodging is very expensive in london. plan on at least $170 per night for hotels. Have stayed in b&b for as little as $100 per night. search online for and purchase a london pass for cheaper travel and some free admissions to sites. As far as cabs, i have only taken 1 cab while in london. from london heathrow airport to holiday inn at the m4 junction. was 10 quid or around $20. so quite expensive for a 10 minute ride, of course it was 11pm flight arrival.

As for flight prices, go to expedia or travelocity and get a bunch of quotes.
For a week, I’d budget a good $1500 to $2000. The rate of exchange stinks right now, so for $2000, your only going to get 1000 pounds, maybe a little less. And prices may seem ok (150 pounds a night for a room in a modest hotel doesn’t sound bad), but when you convert it, everything really costs twice as much as you may think.
If you stay right in London, expect to pay anywhere from 100 to 500 pounds a night, depending on where you stay and when. Tourist season (late spring and summer) costs a lot more than off-season.
I would suggest eating pub meals as much as you can. Good food, modest prices. You can get a great home-cooked pub meal for around 10 pounds. Don’t go to a restaurant as they are higher priced and you don’t always get what you pay for.
Taxis are expensive. Take the tube or buses. A couple of pounds can get you everywhere, and on the buses, you can get a lot of sightseeing done for relatively little money.
    Hope this helps!
