Planning Tips For Your Honeymoon

By Tony Henry | Feb 8, 2010

A honeymoon should be a special time of relaxation and bonding. Yet, failing to appropriately plan a honeymoon can lead to it being stressful and frustrating. Here are some tips to apply to ensure that your honeymoon goes as smoothly as possible.

The most important thing to do is to talk over with your fiance each others preferences regarding the honeymoon. You should not assume that you already know what type of honeymoon they would prefer. Discuss thoroughly location, budget, duration and accommodation. Both of you need to first write an individual list of preferences and then you should make a comparison to find areas that they have in common.

Travel agents can be of great assistance with planning a honeymoon and can advise you based on your joint preferences. Honeymoons are one of the few areas that they still earn commissions so they will commonly go out of their way to help you.

Once you have consulted with a travel agent and have an idea of the likely cost, make a honeymoon savings plan and begin setting money aside for it each week. You could also enquire with the travel agent if they offer a honeymoon registry, that allows guests to contribute to your honeymoon costs.

Try to pre-pay as much beforehand as possible. Incidental expenses such as souvenirs and tips, tend to be manageable expenses, however, if you forget to budget for extra luggage, spa treatments, or car rental, it is easy to find yourselves worrying about money when away.

Having budgeted your money and booked, you only need to pack. Do this at least a week before departing because it will be one less thing to worry about in the frantic approach to your wedding. If you leave it until the last minute, the greater chance there is of you leaving something behind.
